Nike purchased its famous “swoosh” logo for only $35 back in 1971.
The “swoosh” was made by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student back in 1971. The value of those $35 in 1971 is comparable to about $100 today, which it’s still a bargain for Nike, considering how much that logo has achieved for Nike brand.
The swoosh became an instantly-recognizable insignia for Nike around the world, and Davidson continued working for what is now Nike, Inc. After Davidson left Nike in September 1983, Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, invited her to a company lunch. There, he presented her with a diamond ring engraved with the swoosh, and an undisclosed amount of Nike stock.
