Do Indian people use toilet paper?

Most Indians don’t use toilet paper and consider it cleaner to splash water with their left hand in the right location.

In some parts of the world and especially in India toilet paper is not that common, people use other materials to wipe their bottom, such as newspapers, leaves and sand. Though the most popular and seemingly the least cleanest way to do it is with water.

Weirdly there is no deficit of toilet paper, it is simply a method which people prefer and consider cleaner. Consequently, the left hand is considered unclean and is never used for eating.

So the next time you run out of toilet paper, remember that there always is an alternative. Just remember to wash your hands afterwards.
